Few pins can match the historical significance of this rare Harry Truman celluloid. Truman is pictured on this pin with Chaim Weizmann, Zionist leader and the first president of Israel. Weizmann traveled to the U.S. to meet with Truman to gain support for the new nation, but at first Truman refused to meet him – most of Truman’s advisers urged him not to recognize the new nation. But Eddie Jacobson, Truman’s old friend and former business partner, begged Truman to see Weizmann. The president relented, and Weizmann had his chance to persuade Truman to take up the cause. Truman was convinced, and his last-minute support for Israel was a vital part of that nation’s survival. This rare 1 1/4 inch celluloid commemorated that decision. From the Bob Phillips collection, excellent condition.
