James Meredith started a solitary “March Against Fear” in June of 1966. When he was injured by a gunman, others civil rights leaders including Martin Luther King and Stokely Carmichael took up the march. It became a famous event in the civil rights movement, enduring tear gas attacks and other violent opposition. By the end of the month when Meredith rejoined the march, 15,000 had joined up for the arrival in Jackson, the state capital. This 2 1/4 inch celluloid is a scarce item from that historic civil rights event, excellent condition.
