“The Brown Bomber” was one of the most popular sports figures in 1940. This celluloid pin is a double landmark: it not only shows how sports figures can win votes for politicians, it also is one of the very first times an African-American athlete was so popular that his endorsement was sought after by candidates. Louis and Willkie still weren’t enough to knock out FDR, though. The pin is a 1 1/2 inch celluloid in excellent condition.
