Opposition to immigration is not a 21st century phenomenon. This rare, old ribbon proves it. It’s a 14 1/2 inch ribbon and rosette with sequins picturing George Washington and various other patriotic designs that opposes foreign influence in America. It was made for nativists from the Lower Delaware Ward in Philadelphia. Nativist sentiments attracted a wide following in the middle years of the 19th century, including the Know Nothing Party of the 1850s. This amazing ribbon dates from the era when in 1856 Millard Fillmore ran for president. It has a few faint spots here and there but overall is in remarkable shape.
