Belva Lockwood lived a life of firsts. In 1879, she became the first woman attorney to allowed to appear before the Supreme Court. In 1884, then she ran for president on the Equal Rights Party ticket, she became the first woman to be listed on official ballots. Four years later, she ran again. This rare medal is from 1888. It’s a 1 1/4 inch pinback with Lockwood’s name and date on the front and a slight bit of tarnish. Back reads: “Made by the Wadsworth Engraving Co., Springfield, Ohio.” This is the first time we’ve seen this rare suffragist item. Lockwood was a champion of women's rights, world peace and temperance who fought against discrimination her entire life. This rare item is a marvelous piece featuring one of the giants of the suffrage movement. This great item has had almost 50% more hits than anyother item in the auction.
