July 23, 1936 was a big day in Topeka, Kansas. That was the day Alf Landon received the official notification that he was the Republican nominee for president. The city staged a giant parade, complete with covered wagons and marching bands. Landon’s acceptance speech was delivered from the south portico of the state capitol. And this rare celluloid pin was a part of the festivities. This is a very unusual larger size 2 1/4 inch button made to commemorate the big day. Excellent condition.
