What is Roscoe Conkling doing on a 1908 Sherman-Taft pin? Here’s the story: the Utica, New York, Republican marching club was named the Unconditionals after a famous Conkling statement made in a letter to Abraham Lincoln. When Utica’s James Sherman was elected vice president, the Unconditionals turned out in force at the inauguration. This rare 1 1/4 inch celluloid with Whitehead and Hoag BP is in excellent condition.
