Very scarce celluloid pin made for a meeting between President William Howard Taft and Porfirio Diaz of Mexico on Oct. 16, 1909. The two held meetings in El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. It was the first meeting between presidents of the two nations and the first time a U.S. president visited Mexico. Diaz overthrew the Emperor Maximilian in 1866 and ruled Mexico for 35 years before being run out the country himself just 19 months after his meeting with Taft. This 1 1/4 inch celluloid has slight discoloring, Whitehead and Hoag back paper.
