Strom Thurmond Wheel of Progress
Scarce Strom Thurmond pin from his first race as a Republican. Thurmond was a life-long Democrat who switched parties in the mid-1960s. This 1966 pin is from his first race for U.S. Senate as a Republican and includes other statewide GOP candidates, including gubernatorial candidate Joseph Rogers. Strom, by the way, got 62% of the vote (slightly down from his 100% in 1960). This 1 5/8 inch litho is in excellent condition.
