Solar eclipses were big news at the turn of the 20th century – scientists had new ways to study the phenomenon and the public got caught up in the celestial excitement. Eclipses even turned up on political pins, inspiring some of the great items from the McKinley-Bryan era. Here’s one of them. This rare 1 1/4 inch celluloid shows William McKinley eclipsing William Jennings Bryan. Pin has edge spot at 3, otherwise is a real beauty with sharp images, original Indianapolis Photo Button Co. back paper intact.
