John Palmer was a Union general during the Civil War and a Democrat who believed in the gold standard. This 1 3/4 inch shell piece with attached flag ribbon is from 1896, when Palmer was the presidential candidate for a third party made up of Democrats who opposed the free silver movement. Excellent condition.
