Emma Willard is a legendary figure in the women's rights movement. She founded the first Troy Female Seminary in Troy, NY, the first higher education institution for women and dedicated her life to providing educational opportunities for women. Willard died in 1870; this rare 1 1/4 inch celluloid picturing her is a memorial item from around the turn of the 20th century with Whitehead and Hoag back paper. Excellent condition.
