William Jennings Bryan and John W. Kern were accustomed to losing. Bryan lost presidential elections in 1896 and 1900 and Kern lost races for governor of Indiana in 1900 and 1904. So in 1908 they joined forces on the Democratic ticket – and lost again. Kern later went on to become one of the leaders of the progressive Democrats during his one term as a U.S. senator before, alas, losing again in the 1916 election, the first in Indiana in which senators were elected by popular vote. This scarce Bryan-Kern jugate, on the other hand, is a real winner. It’s a 2 1/4 inch celluloid, excellent condition, with sharp images. A real beauty.
