William Jennings Bryan and Andrew E. Lee are pictured on this rare South Dakota coattail pin. Lee was born in Norway and came to the U.S. at a young age, winning the 1896 campaign for governor of South Dakota as a populist, becoming the state’s third governor. He ran again in 1908 as a Democrat, but lost. Judging from Bryan’s picture, this 1 1/4 inch celluloid must be from the 1908 race. The pin has a few very faint and small spots at bottom edge, otherwise is excellent. A rare, unlisted Bryan South Dakota item.
