Franklin Roosevelt is pictured with Hill McAlister on this 1 inch celluloid jugate from Tennessee. McAlister was elected governor in 1932 and 1934. After lobbying for a state sales tax and refusing to allow liquor to be sold in Memphis (Tennessee remained dry after Prohibition was repealed), McAlister realized he couldn’t win a third term and retired from politics. This scarce 1 inch celluloid has a back paper with a Nashville union bug, excellent condition.
