When President Theodore Roosevelt invited Booker T. Washington to the White House for a meal on Oct. 16, 1901, it set off a wave of publicity – Washington became the first African American to be invited to dine with a president at the White House. That event inspired this beautiful 1 1/4 inch celluloid “Equality” pin. It’s a landmark TR and civil rights item from the Al Anderson collection.
