A scarce and fascinating Mississippi election ballot printed in the Mississippi Democrat on March 10, 1860. It backs Mississippi’s Jefferson Davis for president. It also names Joseph Lane of Oregon for vice president. It didn’t work out this way: the Democrats split and Davis eventually became the president of the Confederate States of America. Lane, meanwhile, ended up running for vice president in 1860 on a third party ticket with John Breckinridge. This ballot is 2 3/8 by 4 1/4 inches, excellent condition.
