An exceptionally rare George Washington item. Washington was well-known for giving gifts to friends and supporters. This 1 1/4 inch medal is a “presentation cent.” He personally had these made and this one is engraved with the words “George Washington to Mary Harrap” making it a one-of-a-kind Washington piece. Edge of coin reads “On demand in London Liverpool or Anglesey.” What happened was this was originally a British token that was planed off to allow for the Washington engraving. Small dig in reverse, front is excellent. We don’t know much about Mary Harrap but it appears she might have been an Englishwoman who supported Washington during the Revolution.
