Free Bobby and the LA 18, 1 1/2 inch celluloid, excellent condition. A major confrontation took place on December 8, 1969, four days after Fred Hampton was killed by Chicago police. Police, led by acting police chief Daryl Gates, attacked the Los Angeles Panther headquarters. The 13 Panthers there and the police engaged in a battle that lasted four and a half hours. It ended with six Panthers injured. This, plus two other simultaneous raids on other Panther locations, led to the arrest of 21 Panthers with 18 of them facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder. Eventually, a jury acquitted eight Panthers of conspiracy to commit murder, convicted nine Panthers of conspiracy to possess illegal weapons, and deadlocked on the remaining nine counts against eight defendants while two Panthers were acquitted of all charges.
